Kitchen Waste as Organic Fertilizer

Compost is soil’s best friend and you can reduce significant amount of trash by composting. However, there are few people motivated to try the goodness of compost pile or worm bin for the creation of this compost. There are foods in your kitchen that can serve as a fertilizer which is good for your plants and also reduces the kitchen waste that gets sent to the landfills and increase methane emissions in the atmosphere.

Here are the tips to use your kitchen waste wisely.
Banana Peel
The banana peels are a great source of potassium and help plants grow a healthy mix of fruits and flowers in your garden. You can either stuff the peel near the roots or simply throw the peel on the soil and allow it to decompose naturally. You can also liquefy the banana scrap if you fear you may attract insects due to the peel. Just add one quart of water with the peel in a blender and pour the mix in to the soil.

Coffee Grounds
Just like you need your morning cuppa, so do your plants. Coffee grounds have important components of nitrogen and minerals that is available in coffee grounds in abundance and boost the life of your plant. Caffeine by products is also rich in potassium, calcium and copper that also work wonders for the plants in your garden.

Egg Shells
Egg shells are rich in calcium composition which is available in its shells. Just ground them in your blender and sprinkle in your potted plants and around the trees. These egg shells will give them the necessary boost and grow at a healthy rate.
