Prostate Cancer

Prostate Cancer Cells

What is Prostate Cancer?

In order to know that first we need to know what the prostate is. The prostate is a small walnut size structure that makes up part of a man’s reproductive system. It wraps around the urethra which is the organ that carries urine out of the body. Prostate cancer is cancer that starts in the prostate gland when cells in the gland begin to grow out of control.

Who is at risk?

This type of cancer is the #1 cause of death in men over the age of 75.  It is very rare to find this cancer in men younger than 40. People at the highest risk for prostate cancer include….

  • African American Men who can develop the cancer at any age
  • Men who are over 60
  • Men who have a father or brother with prostate cancer

Other people at risk include…….

  • Men who have been around agent orange
  • Men who abuse Alcohol
  • Farmers
  • Men who eat a diet high in animal fats and other fats
  • Tire Plant Workers
  • Painters
  • Men who have been around cadmium

Prostate cancer is less common in men who do not eat meat aka vegetarians.

Prostate Cancer Symtoms

The PSA Blood test is used to detect prostate cancer prior to symptoms. The symptoms listed below can usually occur with prostate cancer at a late stage. These symtoms can also be caused by other prostate problems….

  • Delayed or slowed start of urinary stream
  • Dribbling or leakage of urine most often after urinating
  • Slow urinary stream
  • Straining when urinating or not being able to empty out all of your urine.
  • Blood or semen in your urine
  • Bone pain or tenderness in the lower back or pelvic bones (when cancer has spread)

If you or anyone you know are expeiencing these symptoms please go see or advise them to go see a health professional.

Ways to maintain a Healthy Prostate

It’s all in the way you eat or the way you supplement your body. You may lower your risk of prostate cancer by eating a a diet that is high in omega 3 fatty acids, low fat, eating similar to a traditional Japanese diet and becoming a vegetarian. In addition you can also prevent prostate cancer by drinking green tea, or taking green tea supplements. Medical professionals are positive that taking green tea in the right quantities can help prevent prostate cancer. Green tea can also halt the growth of prostate tumers in men that have already developed the cancer. This is also a very beneficial supplement in helping men maintain a healthy prostate. Below are somethings I recommend to supplement the type of diets mentioned above if you do not currently eat like this or don’t plan to eat like thas. All of these things are natural certified organic supplements by government standards.

Omega 3

Vegetarian

Green Tea

Treatment Options

Your doctor will discus your treatment options with you. They could include surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy or chemotherapy. All of this depends on your age and the stage of the cancer you are in. Some doctors will recommend simply monitoring the cancer with PSA tests and biopsy’s. This is common for older men.

Biometric Screening

What is Biometric Testing?

Biometric Screening is where health insurance companies or employers have employees get their blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglycerides, blood glucose, and anything else they choose to assess measured. This is done to identify health needs you may have so they may be addressed. At the end of the testing all of your results are discussed with you. The testing can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Most of these test are conducted on site at your place of employment.

Why should I get Biometric Screening done and why is my employer suggesting this type of Health Screening?

The reasons that Biometric Test should be conducted are numerous. These test promote good health, health awareness, and health education. However the main reason employers and health insurance agencies are pushing these test is economics. Over the years health screenings have reduced over all medical expenses. This has been achieved by identifying employees with health risks that need additional health coaching. The goal of Biometric screening is early risk detection and intervention. It is much better to know you have a health problem early on so that you can begin taking care of it before its to late. This type  of employee health screening should be done once a year.

My Personal Experience with Biometric Screening

Recently I had a Cigna Biometric Screening done. My employer switched insurance agencies, and they were pushing that everyone get the screening done or our personal premium would increase. My experience was very pleasurable. The on site health professionals were very nice, friendly, and detailed. When I went to the counselor to get my results she told me that my coworkers would be jealous of my numbers. Shortly there after I found out that she said this because all of my test were normal. The following are the things they checked.

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Waist Circumference
  • Blood Pressure
  • Total Cholesterol
  • HDL Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides (Fasting)
  • LDL Cholestorol (Fasting)
  • Risk Ratio
  • Glucose (Fasting)
I had good results because I workout at least 3 times a week, eat vegetables with most meals, and take certified organic vitamins and supplements. The counselor agreed that these habits were why my results were good. When I workout I make sure I do cordio, abdominal, and strength workouts.

Would I recommend Biometric Screening?

I would definitely recommend getting your health screening done. As I stated earlier its always good to know whats going on with your body so you can take the necessary measures to take care of yourself. At the very least just get it done so they won’t go up on your premium and take more money out of your check. You can click here for additional information about Biometric Screening.

Knee Pain and Ankle Pain Remedy

Playing Basketball has been of great interest to me since I was 12 years old. I grew up wanting to play football, but when I was in the 7th grade ,which is when you can play sports in school in Texas, my parents told me I could not play because they did’nt want me to get hurt. Who knows if they would of let me play I could of been in the NFL by now. When my parents gave me this bad news I set my sights on basketball though I had never played in my life. Consequently I did not make the team my 7th grade year when I tried out. However I practiced hard for a year, and made the team in 8th grade! I ended up playing a little high school basketball as well. When I look back on it the age of 12 was when I fell in love with game. I truly do love this game. I’ve been playing basketball every since. Currently I play most Sundays at a gym in Sugarland, Tx.

Ankles and Knees

If you play basketball like me then you know first hand that basketball can be very hard on the ankles and the knees. A lot of times people at the court may roll their ankle, bump knees, twist their knee or fall knee first onto the court or blacktop. Sadly a few years back I suffered from the latter. I lost my footing and landed knee first onto the concrete a few years back when I was in college. I’ve also rolled an ankle on occasion. As a result I had a little on going ankle and knee pain that would be slightly aggravated whenever I played basketball for a few years after to those incidents. I also had a few car accidents that re-aggravated the knee injury as well. However, about two years ago I found something that has worked to take away the pain and restrengthen my knees and ankles as if I were 15 again.

Remedy

I actually take a certified organic supplement to heal and rebuild the collagen in my ankles and knee whenever its needed. Glucosamine- 7 supports healthy connective tissue, builds and maintains collagen between joints, and supports shock absorbing properties of  joint cartilage. So as you wear down the tissue, and cartilage this supplement helps you rebuild it. If my knees and ankles are stiff and sore after I hoop I always take this supplement. By the next Sunday when I play I’m good as new.

Thoughts

As always I like to share what has worked for me. I hope it will work for you as well. Please post things that have worked for your knee and ankle pain after playing basketball, exercising or running below in the comments section. Almost every sport has wear and tear on your knees and ankles. I know a lot of you have things to contribute.

High Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure is a very serious condition. It can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure. Those are just a few of the major health problems that can come with this condition. Blood Pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time it can damage the body in many ways. Between 120 and 140 over 80 to 90 or lower is the normal blood pressure levels that we should all strive to maintain.

How To Lower Your Blood Pressure

  • Limit your caffeine-Caffeine can contribute to high blood pressure.
  • Limit Alcohol-As the body metabolizes alcohol blood pressure increases.
  • Avoid processed foods-They are the highest source of sodium in our diet.
  • Maintain optimal weight-Small amounts of weight loss can improve your blood pressure.
  • Relax Yourself-Meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises can help lower blood pressure.
  • Don’t Smoke-Smoking promotes all cardiovascular disease.
  • Exercise-As little as 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day such as walking can be a very effective natural remedy for high blood pressure.
  • Check your medications-Discuss your current medicine and their risk of increasing blood pressure with your doctor.
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables- You should eat 8 to 10 servings a day or you can take fruit and vegetable supplements. You can drink them as well.
  • Limit animal protein- Emphasize lean sources and limit yourself to 6 oz a day.
  • Decrease Salt intake-Limit salt to about one teaspoon a day expecially if your family has a history of high blood pressure.
  • Use Garlic-It has an effect on lowering blood pressure, and may help relax blood vessals. You can also take garlic supplements for the same effect.
  • Eat nuts, seeds, and dry beans- 4 to 5 servings is recommended per week.
  • Eat plenty fish- Include at least 3 servings of cold water fish a week. Focus on fish high in omega-3 fatty acids. You may take fish oil supplements if you don’t eat that much fish.
  • Take Calcium and Magnesium- Not having enough of these minerals has been associated with high blood pressure. Women need 1000-1200 mg a day while men need 500-600 mg daily.
  • Take Vitamin C- Vitamin C has been shown to lower blood pressure in people with mild to moderate hypertension.
I hope this helps. If you are going to take something I always feel that certified natural organic supplements are your best bet, and will get you your best results. That has been my experience. Feel free to post comments of high blood pressure remedy advice you have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D Sources

Recently I have heard alot of talk about Vitamin D in the media. Some of you may wonder what exactly is Vitamin D? How does it help me? What can I do to insure that my body has an optimal supply of Vitamin D? Vitamin D is a fat-soluble supplement vitamin that is not present in many foods. Most people do not get enough Vitamin D in their diet which can lead to diseases like osteoporosis in the short term or long run. On the other hand proper amounts of Vitamin D will aid in having good memory, proper bone density, and enhanced  immunity.

Bone Density

Vitamin D truly does strengthen our bones. All of my research on vitamin D lists strong bones, and or bone density as a benefit of having adequate amounts of this vitamin in your system. Milk is the most common source of Vitamin D that most people are familiar with. Vitamin D has to aid in strong bones and teeth. I have never lacked in the milk drinking department. As a result I’m happy to say that in 27 years of life I have never broken a bone in my body. There is a high chance that developing osteoporosis will be avoided if you give your body healthy doses of vitamin D on a regular basis.

Immunity

Vitamin D is very Important for our immune systems. It helps regulate the “T” cells which are important immune activators. I read something where a guy  said he would catch several colds every year. When he was tested for vitamin D a few years ago it was very low. He began taking vitamin D regularly to get it into a normal range for his body. Since that time he was pleased to state that he has only had 2 colds.

Memory

Keeping your Vitamin D levels normal can help you maintain a good memory. Recent studies confirm that normal brain function requires vitamin D. People were tested on their memory in relation to their vitamin D levels. It was confirmed that the people who tested with a higher level of vitamin D in their systems also tested to have a better memory than those with low levels of vitamin D.

Sources

Purest Form of Vitamin D

There are several good sources of vitamin D. I would say that the best is the natural source. The sun. Our bodies produce vitamin D from sun light through a photosynthesis type process. However, with people spending more and more time inside more people are vitamin D deficient than ever. Sun screen and lotion block out the sun light we need to penetrate our skin to internally produce vitamin D. That is why we should take a natural organic vitamin D supplement such as the ones I’ve linked to. In addition we should also add cheese, fortified milk, healthy cereals, and fish to our diets for other natural sources of vitamin D.

How To Prevent the Common Cold and Flu

Sneezing

Symptoms

As you’re reading this you may have just finished one of many sneeze attacks. Maybe you just came out of the restroom from getting toilet paper to blow your nose. Perhaps you are wiping your nose right now with a tethered piece of tissue. Your child may be suffering from the common cold, and you are searching the internet vigorously for remedies. Either way you or someone you know, and love is coping or has had to cope with cold or flu symptoms. What if you could avoid getting sick, and make your chances of catching the cold or flu this season slim to none? Here are some tips that can prevent you from catching a cold or flu as the temperatures begin to drop.

Bundle Up

Lots of people make the mistake of not checking the temperature outside before them or their kids leave the house in the morning or even in the evening. Not checking the out door temperature by watching the news or stepping outside causes kids to go to school without a coat. I’m a teacher so I see this all the time. Failing to check the temperature may also cause adults who get in their cars from their closed garage to make it all the way to work only to find out they are not equipped for the weather when they step out of their car. Nine times out of ten they will be forced to face the cold temperatures without a coat, hat or gloves. Later in the day they will begin to sneeze or cough, and have to deal with a week or two of wet tissue, and a miserable feeling of cold or flu symptoms. All of this can be easily avoided by making it a habit to always check the temperature before leaving the house, and bundling up properly. Always wear a hat and coat if temperatures are below 70 degrees. If the temperature is below 60 degrees you should also be wearing gloves, and a scarf to protect your neck. If the temperature is below 40 degrees you should be wearing boots, thick sox, and long johns as well as the things I mentioned previously. It’s better to be hot than cold.

Additional Tips to Prevent Sickness

Tips

1. Wash your hands with soap as much as possible throughout the day. If you can’t get to a faucet keep hand sanitizer with you and use that. It actually kills 99.9% of germs. Cold and flu germs enter the body through the nose, mouth, and eyes. You should avoid touching your face at all cost until you have had a chance to wash or sanitize your hands, after you have touched anything or anyone.

2.Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Also please use a tissue to wipe your nose. Make sure you wash your hands after doing so.

3. Eat a nutrient rich diet with plenty of whole fruits and vegetables. It’s good to have a good organic multi vitamin that you take daily, but nothing can replace the raw nutrition, and immunity boosting vitamins, and minerals of real fruits and veggies.

4. Drink Lots of Fluids especially water, and natural fruit juices. Not soda or alcohol. Our bodies need a lot of water daily to function properly. If we don’t consume enough water our bodies begin to break down, and become vulnerable to all types of sicknesses not limited to the common cold and flu.

5. Exercise Regularly. Studies show that people who do regular exercise get half as many colds as those who don’t. Lets say you only got one cold last year. If you exercise regulary that means you could possibly get zero colds this year! Our bodies function better when we exercise regulary. For example you could run a mile twice a week, take up a sport or do an excercise video to name a few things.

6. Use a sauna

7. Don’t smoke. Smoking leaves people open to all types of sickness and disease. Not only smokers, but people around 2nd hand smoke or more likely to catch the cold, and flu as well.

8. Avoid sick people at all cost. Both the cold, and flu are easily spread. Not only that but they go air borne.

There are also certified organic products you can take to build your immune system. If you have any other tips about avoiding the cold and flu please add them in the comment section.

Rhodiola Herb Gives Energy and Fights Depression

Rhodiola

Rhodiola is a super herb. It’s an adaptogenic herb that has versatile health benefits. If you suffer from depression its a natural pick me up. If you need physical or mental energy it will supply that for you as well. In addition it will reduce stress, and also increase your sexual energy. Work outs are enhanced as a result of rhodiola as well. Something else that I find very interesting about this herb is that it is rumored to help fight breast cancer. Rhodiola is a plant that grows in very harsh arctic climates in northern Europe and Russia. What is more remarkable than the fact that it grows in such icy climates is that it can help you withstand the harsh conditions of life such as stress, fatigue, and depression.

No Doz

NoDoz

Prior to my research I thought of Rhodiola as merely a natural organic supplemental substitute for the popular pill No Doz. A synthetic pill which college students, and people with sleep deprivation rely on heavily to stay awake. I was introduced to NoDoz by one of my line brothers when I was pledging in college. He would often pop these pills, but they did’nt seem to work. I say this because my line brothers and I would often fall asleep while studying our literature. Yes my line brother that took the No Doz would fall asleep as well.

Organic Alternative

If I were back in college having to study those late nights pledging or cramming for a midterm I’d definitely make the super herb rhodiola a necessity. Not only would it keep me

Energy and Focus

alert, awake, and focused it would give me its other numerous benefits I stated previously as well. It has been nick named the smart pill. A college student would also benefit from taking this pill prior to exams. If you are a person who would rather take a pill than drink an energy drink this would be the right alternative for you. It will sustain your focus, and energy longer than an energy drink actually minus the crash.

Please check with your doctor to learn more about the many benefits of taking rhodiola, and how it can help you live a more optimal healthy life. To learn more about me click here. To contact me for a free health consultation on certified organic health solutions message me here.

Vitamin C Extended Release

True Story

One day my nose was running and I was sneezing. Luckily we had some organic vitamin c samples from our organic health product supplier that I had not tried yet. They had sent them to me when I bought a supplement that clears nasal passages. I decided to try the vitamin c. Within about 30 seconds my nose dried up, and I stopped sneezing. I was amazed.

Extended Release

The Vitamin C I used was an extended release organic vitamin c supplement made out of acerola cherries. Extended release means that the vitamin c is released little by little for eight ours until the pill is totally dissolved. This naturally eliminates the need to take several vitamin c pill throughout the day, because the vitamin is being released into your body little by little for eight hours. This gives your body all day immunity defense and eliminates the waste that comes with instant release vitamin c tablets. The Extended Release tablets also have an amount of vitamin c in them more than that of 7 oranges, 16 lemons, or 6 grapefruits.

Benefits of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a phenominal supplement. Most people know that its an immunity boosting supplement. However Vitamin C does other things for our bodies as well. It also produces antioxident properties that help maintain healthy tissues and its good for our bones. Another fact that I find interesting about Vitamin C is that it aids in healthy blood circulation for smokers.

If you have any questions or would like a free health consultation about this organic supplement or any other natural organic supplements that can help with your ailments or improve your health feel free to contact me. I would love to hear from you. Thanks for reading.

Fish Oil Supplements vs. Chemo

It has been said and proven that omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids can aid in brain and heart health. We also know that people experiencing depression can also be benefited from taking omega 3 fatty acids which can be found in fish oil supplements. Fatty acids found in cold water fish are also great for brain development in children. I still believe that this is a great and beneficial natural supplement to take. However, this may not be a supplement that everyone can benefit from.

New Information

Recently Dutch researchers found that fish oil supplements may block chemotherapy from attacking tumors. They have suggested that patients undergoing chemo treatments should stop taking over the counter fish oil supplements for this reason. Platinum induced fatty acids better known as PIFA’s were shown to block one type of chemo from working in animal tests. Actually the test they are speaking of were conducted on mice with tumors. When the mice were injected with over the counter fish oil supplements their chemo treatments were rendered ineffective from that point on. These studies were conducted at the Netherlands University Medical Center.

Possible Solutions

More research is definitely needed prior to making a final conclusion. However, this information is beneficial  to chemo patients, and their loved ones so that they can make an educated decision on whether they would like to continue to run the risk of blocking their chemo treatments by taking these supplements to boost brain, and heart health. Perhaps they can start to find alternative supplements that will produce the same helpful results. I would suggest that those undergoing chemo treatments speak with their doctor about these concerns and see what they recommend. For future updates on this and other helpful certified organic health information, video’s and blogs contact me, and join my mailing list.
